This is a picture which celebrates difference. Mermaids are usually shown as having a human body and a fish tail, but this is the reverse combination. l think this makes these mermaids seem unexpectedly more human, maybe a bit more awkward, and a bit more vulnerable. These mermaids are clearly best friends, and having put on their finest fishscale dresses, look like they are about to have a night on the town.

Please note that this print is one of a group of small prints, some of which in the interests of economy and waste reduction, use the reverse side of paper that has been previously printed and would otherwise be thrown away. Please rest assured though that this does not in any way affect the work. All prints are clean and unmarked, and printed on either Fabriano Rosaspina 285gsm or Somerset Satin 300gsm.

There are 4 colour layers in this print, each printed separately by hand. Each layer is drawn or painted onto film and then photographically transferred onto a screen, a nylon mesh stretched on a frame. it then acts as a stencil, allowing ink to pass through some areas of the screen, and blocking it in others.
